RaceWeekLogoMonday 17th August – first blood to Robinson.

After a ninety minute delay, waiting for the sun to appear and the wind to settle, Chichester Harbour race week finally got underway in a 7-9 knot wind from the SSW direction. On Series A all starts got away cleanly with just one OCS disqualified boat across the 7 fleets. The tide was changing during the sequence, so tidal decisions for which way to go up the beat varied during the class starts.

The wind held steady throughout the race so close racing was enjoyed across all the classes, particularly in the Medium Asymmetric Fleet, Fireball, RS400 and Laser classes where many place changes made for exciting racing in the shifting breeze. Some in the Finns were caught out by the ebbing tide on the first beat, as the usual East Head shore no longer proved the favoured side of the course, with Neil Robinson finally taking the gun from Matt Walker, ahead of Russ Ward.
